Sunset Beach-National Geographic
Do you think Sunset Beach is one of the greatest beaches in the world? We who live here think so and so do the people at National Geographic! Sunset Beach, North Carolina was voted as one of the 21 Best Beaches in the World! Yes, that’s right, the world!
You have to ask yourself, what are the criteria to decide what makes one of the best beaches in the world? Of course, the beautiful scenery, the clean and family-friendly beaches, but Sunset Beach has 3 miles of some of the best sand to walk on without hurting your feet and it also has one special trait that most other beaches do not have – Kindred Spirit.
National Geographic writes, “At the west end of this remote beach, a mile from the access point, a solitary mailbox stands, planted by local Frank Nesmith in the ’70s, and continually replenished with notebooks inviting visitors to jot thoughts, dreams, wishes, and whatever else moves the spirit.”
Sunset Beach is definitely a gem among the Brunswick Islands with a personality all its own, and the mailbox adds to its unique charm.
